Overview

Choctaw Casino in Durant is located in Southeastern Oklahoma about 95 miles north of Dallas. It is one of eight casinos owned by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

Valet parking is available 24/7 at the Choctaw Casino Resort Hotel Tower and there is complimentary shuttle transportation is available throughout the resort grounds.

The Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant originally opened in 2006 with a 100,000-square-foot casino. Since that time there has been four major expansion projects. In 2010 a 12-story hotel tower was added. In 2012 a major upgrade of the Choctaw Lodge and Choctaw Inn was completed. In 2015 a new hotel tower, the Grand Theater, and The District family entertainment center were opened.

Choctaw Casino in Durant is a tribal casino owned by the Choctaw Nation. There are also Choctaw Casinos located in Broken Bow, Grant, Idabel, McAlester, Pocola, Stigler and Stringtown.

$500M Expansion Opens in Spring 2021

The fourth and latest expansion project began in April 2019 to add another hotel tower, more gaming space, more restaurants and a conference center. Construction will cost $500 million and take two years to complete.

Choctaw Casinos & Resorts reopen June 1

May 24, 2020

All Choctaw gaming properties and hotels will reopen Monday June 1st. They were closed March 16 to protect against the spread of COVID-19.

The Choctaw Casinos Facebook page reads: 'We are developing a comprehensive health and safety plan to prepare for re-opening and to ensure the health and safety of all guests and associates. Operations and amenities will be limited at first but more details to come.'

GUEST SAFETY MEASURES
Guest occupancy will be limited to allow safe distancing.
New health procedures will follow public guidelines.
Masks will be worn by employees and available to guests.
No valet and shuttle service will be available until further notice.

CASINO
Slot machines will operate with safe distancing between players. Poker and table games will limit players to every other seat. Every other table will be closed.

RESTAURANTS & BARS
All restaurants and bars will have reduced seating for safe distancing.

ENTERTAINMENT
Live entertainment and concerts are temporarily suspended. Cinema, bowling and arcade will operated under reduced capacity.

HOTELS
Hotels will reopen with enhanced room sterilization. Pools and spas will allow fewer guests.

A new restaurant, Guy Fieri's American Kitchen + Bar, will open in April at Choctaw Casino & Resort in Durant.

The 11,000-square-foot restaurant will be open 24/7 and seat 277 guests. Its location is at the south end of the casino where the dining area and outdoor patio will view The Oasis Pool.

La Cantina celebrates new menu at Choctaw Casino Durant

July 1, 2019

The La Cantina restaurant at Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant is celebrating its new menu with a 'Grand Opening Fiesta' on July 4-7 from 4PM to 8PM.

The new menu at La Cantina will be celebrated with free prizes and live Latin music over the 4-day holiday weekend. The casino will also hosts its annual fireworks show at dusk July 4th. The 'Let Freedom Ride' promotion is a chance for reward members to win $300,000 cash or a new red, white or blue Corvette.

The La Cantina restaurant is open daily 11AM-10PM. The bar is open until 2AM.

Choctaw Casino Durant Breaks Ground on $500 Million Expansion

April 29, 2019

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma celebrated the groundbreaking of a new $500 million expansion project at their Durant casino that will add 1,000 hotel rooms, more gaming space, a parking garage, more restaurants and new retail space. The construction will be completed by Spring 2021.

The groundbreaking was April 25th and was attended by tribal leaders, city officials, industry representatives and community members. A ceremony was led by Chief Gary Batton of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma who told the gathering:

'Today is a special day for the Choctaw Nation as we embark upon an expansion journey that will result in a top-tier entertainment offering for our region and will spur economic growth for Durant and our state, plus new employment opportunities for our tribal and community members. The expansion will go a long way in meeting the demands of our growing customer base by delivering exciting new enhancements and luxury amenities for all who visit.'

When the new hotel tower is completed, the Durant casino will have 1,650 total guest rooms. It will be the largest hotel in Oklahoma.

The expansion will also create another 1,000 new jobs. That will add to the current 2,500 employees.

Choctaw Casino and Resort announces a 2-year expansion plan

November 14, 2018

1,000 new employment opportunities are expected to be created by the Choctaw Casino and Resort expansion project. The Choctaw Casino and Resort is located in the city of Durant. By creating 1,000 new jobs it is expected to create a boost to the local economy in Durant.

On Tuesday the plans for the new expansion project at the Choctaw Casino and Resort were announced. Plans include a new hotel that will be developed. The new hotel will offer 1,000 rooms for guests. The expansion project will also include pools, a lazy river, shopping, conference center, and multiple dining venues. In addition, more gaming space at the casino and additional parking in the new parking garage.

The casino first opened in 2006. At that time the casino was 100,000 square feet. In 2010 a new 12 story tall hotel tower was opened. In 2012 renovations were completed at the Choctaw Lodge and Choctaw Inn. The District family entertainment center, Grand Theater, and an additional hotel tower and spa were opened in 2015.

This will be the fourth expansion project that the Choctaw Casino and Resort has undergone.

The latest expansion project came about to due to a market study that was conducted. The study showed that there is a need for more entertainment options in Southern Oklahoma and North Texas.

It is estimated to take 2 years to complete the project. The Choctaw Nation is hopeful to begin construction next year in the spring.

We recently went to Winstar for the 311 concert. My husband is a die hard 311 fan so we’ve seen them quite a few times. I’m kind of surprised they even still tour. But that’s neither here nor there. We picked up our friends Will and Lisa and headed out of town on Saturday around noon. The drive is only about an hour and 15 mins (of course that depends on where you’re coming from). But it was a super easy drive, all highway. That was everyone’s first time to visit Winstar. Brian and I had been to Choctaw so I felt like we had a good baseline for comparison. They are both OK casinos, so not the Vegas experience but still a fun weekend or overnight trip. So today I thought it’d be fun to compare the two. See my detailed Choctaw post HERE.
Room rate – Winstar charges a hefty rate per night. $369 base rate + $10.70 resort fee + $44.28 taxes = $423.98 and this is a basic room. Nothing special. That is pretty pricey! Our room at Choctaw was right around $200/night so more than half the cost of Winstar. Verdict: Choctaw wins

Pool – this is a prime reason why you go on vacation, right? It is for me at least. There better be a nice pool where I can relax and sip on tasty drinks. The pool at Choctaw is FAR superior than Winstar’s pool. Choctaw also has the upper hand on servers. They are much easier on the eyes and professional. Choctaw also specifically had a children’s pool and “adult only area” which was great. I did not see either a separation at Winstar. Choctaw even had a grotto and the cute string lights everywhere. You know the ones. They make everything a little more adorable. Verdict: Choctaw wins.

Spa – the spa at Choctaw was very nice. I’d even go as far as to say it was comparable to a high end Vegas spa. There was a mineral pool that was co-ed so Brian and I could get in together, which was nice. It was only $8 to use the spa so we definitely went and utilized the steam room after a night of drinking. We did not use the spa at Winstar so it’s not fair that I weigh in. I did look on the website though and there aren’t any pictures which I find strange. Verdict: Not enough info to call, but I was definitely impressed with Choctaw’s.
Concerts – the Offspring/311 concert was the main reason why we visited Winstar and I’ll give them credit. They do seem to pull in some pretty decent acts. Our friend is a drummer in a pretty well know band and I think he got around $15K for his part in their show there. So based on that, the average payout for a show is probably around $120K. This is a pure guess based only on the information I have. We saw the Dwight Yoakam concert at Choctaw. They also have concerts but definitely not the caliber of performers as Winstar. Winstar’s space is also MUCH larger. I recommend paying extra for the VIP experience. The leg room is out of this world!!! Choctaw has a much smaller venue. So depending on what you like this could be a pro or a con since it’s more intimate. Verdict: Winstar wins.
Restaurants – both have plenty of choices including both high and low end. We ate at the high end 1832 Steakhouse at Choctaw and just ended up grabbing pizza at Winstar (it was delicious tho!). We tried to get a reservation at Kirby’s Prime Steakhouse at Winstar but we waited too long. So my only piece of advice is book early if you know you want to try their fine dining. Verdict: Winstar wins since they offer more options.
Casino – Winstar has the bigger casino BY FAR. In fact, it’s the biggest in the world. It was kind of too big if you ask me. Brian and Will played some late night poker and they said it literally took them 20 mins (not exaggerating) to walk from the main casino area to the poker area. WOW. But with a bigger casino comes more cigarette smoke. Winstar’s casino smelled very smoky which is a huge turn off to me. They need to up their air filtration game. Choctaw’s casino was much more intimate and cozy. It didn’t have the smoky odor either. Both have your typical casino games and both charge an ante per hand (I personally find that uber annoying). They also both do not offer free drinks with game play (also uber annoying). But at least at Choctaw they had waitresses that came around that you could order drinks from. We never saw any at Winstar.
So who is the winner? Well, it depends. What brings you to OK? Is is a nice pool/spa getaway? Then Choctaw would be your hands down winner. Is it a concert? Then Winstar would probably win. Is it gambling? Well, you’ll be happy at either. So it’s just kind of your preference. Both were really fun weekend getaways! 😊
